tb-303 and cubase help.

Post by slinkyjr » Thu Aug 23, 2007 8:03 pm

hello, has anyone had any trouble trying to use Cubase's midi sync clock?
i have tried to sync my tb-303 but when i run it, it starts out ok, then slows down, then speeds up. any idea what the problem could be?
thanks,
benjamin

simple, the TB does not have midi, it SYNC24. You need a midi to sync convertor

I've been having issues syncing up my CR-8000. What kind of a sync box are you using. Perhaps we can work on this issue together.

actually, i bought what looks to be a midi sync box/converter and also a couple of midi to c/v boxes off of ebay, they look kind of homemade. i can get the c/v boxes to work at all, maybe im just doing something wrong there, but the MIDI sync / converter box with my 303 will not sync to the clock.

what are you using?

What version of cubase are you using?

I recall having timing issues with midi clock rather than din sync, but same thing-I had both the midi clock on and some other clock or sync signal being output to my boss dr. 770 and the timing was all off.

however, once I turned off the midi clock (?), it worked. Since the 303 (like the 770) has it's own internal clock for the sequencer, you don't need to send the midi clock signal out as well. it seems to confuse things.

hopefully this at least gives a clue what to try.
Do you even post on vse bro?

Are you using MTC (MIDI time code) or MIDI clock?

Can you sync with something other than Cubase? (is it the device or cubase?)

If you give details of your system and Cubase MIDI settings it would help.

I also have two of those homemade looking ebay black sync boxes. I can;t get either to produce a good sync signal. I know what is wrong with one of them, it outputs dinsync but the signal is too weak. The pulse should be several volts but the box was only putting out something less than a volt. SO the CR-8000 would occasionally grab the signal but would then drift.

I have not had time to look at the other one I have. The previous owner claims some of its functions work.

Thats right! i bought a few of these boxes hoping to sync the 303 and also cv/gate my mini, odyssey and pro-one. cv/gate to midi boxes dont work at all, and the sync box works without a perfect sync. are there some brand name units out there could can do this, other than these little black plasticky
cheap boxes?

Doepfer makes one but it is $120. You could get a Roland MSQ or a TR 707 or 909 and use that as your master clock. I've though about doing that.

I have not yet given up on getting one of my cheap boxes to work.

this is really a dumb question, but, i am using a midi cable to hook into the 303, i should probably be using a din cable, would that cause the unstable tempo?

Could be. Some midi cables have all five pins attached, some don't. Midi and din use different pins. The HOSA brand tends to have all of the pins connected so these can usually be used as either midi or din cables.

You should should check the cable you are using.
