Vocoding on a Alesis Photon X25 ?
I really like the Photon X25, been thinking of getting one, but i also wanna do vocoding on it, does somebody knows if this is posible on it, or some suggestions on a 2 octave controler that may allow to do that?

The Photon X25 is a midi controller, not a vocoder :-sBrujo76 wrote:I really like the Photon X25, been thinking of getting one, but i also wanna do vocoding on it,
A midi controller sends note messages to synthesizers. It does not produce sound. Yes, you can send notes to whatever synth you want using a midi controller. That's what they do.Brujo76 wrote:i know charlie clouser used a midi controller to do vocoding live, so is it possible to control a vst vocoder or rack though it?

to add to the info here since you are obviously new at this...
Most modern synths can also control other synths via MIDI. Though that makes them MIDI controllers, it des not make them dedicated midi controllers which is what people think you mean when you ask about gear. You even mentioned the Photon. It cannot make a sound on its own so it cannot vocode.
What the other people in this thread have said is true: you cannot vocode with a dedicated controller. It is not capable of either a carrier or a modulator, both of which are necessary for vocoding.

You would just hook the microphone directly to the vocoder. You can't send the signal from a microphone over MIDI. MIDI doesn't transmit sound.Brujo76 wrote:well here's what i should be asking, is there a way you can you hook up a microphone on to the photon and hook it up midi to a vocoder be it rack or plugin, and have the effect of a complete vocoder?
Do you already have a Photon or something? If you do, then you should read the owners manual or get one from Alesis and read it. It will explain the uses of the Photon to you.

take a look at the Korg microKORG. it's a small form-factor virtual analog synthesizer, with a built-in vocoder and included microphone. the small keys rub some people the wrong way but the synthesis capabilities far outweigh any negatives. it's fairly inexpensive and easy to come by.
