have 3 AA sized rechargable nicam batteries inside the unit
which have been soldered on...
they look dated, and i was wondering could i go ahead and
replace them easily enough..brother has offered...they are soldered
on to upright pins either side..
firstly what are they used for,and two would it make my linn drum any
quicker on start up.is a generally find 30 mins warm up process is
needed,by that time my inspiration has drained somewhat
thanks.

Them's memory backup batteries. If you don't have them, your Linn will not keep any patterns on shutdown.
I'm curious what you mean by 30 mins warm-up time... what does it do if you don't give it that?
I ask because mine's a bit glitchy at first, and likes to be switched off & on again before it'll cooperate.

firstly..SORRY MR SPIDER...should have known better, but was in hurry
to get the post in before i went out...SLAP..
in reply to last post....
on start up the unit humms..and shows usually 03 on display
sometimes 00....on clicking on and off it shows 13 or 10...
i usually leave it to its own devices,30 mins later 11 appears.and im in
business...
i just wish i could turn it on and play...so ive sampled a lot of the sounds
because of this...and yes i think ive lost all the pre prog rythms now..
i wonder if the lm1 had this delay..saw one at 650.00 was very tempted
but no midi.

Interesting. If I don't use mine for a few days, when I turn it on it looks OK, but the last programmed rhythm will fill up with rubbish at the end. Then when I try to erase it, the machine shows random display bars and clicks at me a few time before refusing to play anything. After that, I turn it off & on again, and it works perfectly, but the rhythms are blank.
As long as I use it again in the next day or so, it's all fine. Only when I leave it off for a long while does this happen. I suspect two things: first, the batteries are discharged somewhat. Second, the Linn does not like the cold and slightly damp room, as I have a basement studio and the environment has caused a few problems. I'm moving all my gear this week to a new location so that won't be an issue any more. Hopefully the Linn will be happier. The temperature down there right now means much of my gear that needs to warm up takes forever to get there.
Keep us posted, and if you find a source for replacement batteries, let me know.
