Hi everyone,
I got a roland kr-33 from my girl-friend's family. It's from the 80's and google tells me that NOBODY uses these!!
Here's my problem : a lot of the notes aren't working, or working real weird. Half the notes in the middle simply don't work and a lot elsewhere also.
What I've been able to find : this keyboard is semi-worthless, as in repairing it will probably cost more than what I could eventually sell it for, but I just want it to work so I can fark around with it.
My question : is this problem fixable? What kind of a store would be able to fix this? anyone from montreal could recommend a place for me? Or is it just better to find a new old shitty keyboard to replace it. Kind of very low on cash right now so I'd preffer just paying like 50-80$ to repair it than paying like 150$ to get something slightly better. I mean, how bad can it be really....
stats about the roland kr-33 : 76 keys and 8 tones including piano, harpsichord, organ, and choir. Midi in, out and through (??), stereo audio in/out, pedal in, headphone jack (no s**t).
what do you guys recommend? Anybody know this keyboard??
thanks a million,
darouser

Seems like dirty contacts to me. I'm not 100% sure what contact system Roland used on the KR-33. You can clean the contacts with denaturalized alcohol and a q-tip. And depending how the contact is actually made, a white steadler eraser can be used for the cleaning.
You'll find the contacts underneath the keys. You have to take off the keybed to access the PCB on which the contacts are - that is carbon/gold contact system.
Could be metallic contacts (actually 3 metal plates) system. One could be bent and thus contact is not properly made. You may be able to unbend them with patience.
Hope that helps a bit

Re: roland kr-33 repair??
This keyboard has a major issue with how the keypad circuit boards are connected to the main circuit board. It is very very very bad. The only way I have figured out to repair the issue is to replace their system of connection with a large number of wires soldered in place. Maybe 20 or 40 wires or more soldered at each end to their respective locations in order to replace the original Roland connections which are just held in place by a plastic "stick" to hold the ribbon cables against the circuit board pads. Very, very, very bad system. I think it can be done but is it worth all the effort ?????
