Ensoniq ESQ-1

Hi folks

I have an Ensoniq ESQ-1 I bought back in 1986 that I just took out of storage replaced the battery and started having some fun with it
my question is on some sounds like wavbell and other bell sounds and things which seem like a lot of 'verb when you go high on the board it starts popping and crackling static only when playing and its intermittant my software version is 1.70 and all in all its perfect really but those occasional pops drive me nuts
any info or ideas would be a help
