MC-808 pattern duration problem

I cant figure out how to shorten the patterns, I tried tampering with "duration [mind you I know write protect is off as I can change and save anything else in the setup with ease] I try to make one track as I hate waiting 7 measure to start editing my drums, especially since I got the copy paste thing down, how can I change this? and just for kicks and giggles, did I miss a setting somewhere?
