So I just got my JD-800. Well the seller shipped the item poorly (the casing to the right of the keys cracked off!!.. and there's a key with no spring .. still works but sticks sometimes) .. But I still am really liking it.

Last night .. staring off in my zone playing some lush strings .. I noticed a strange thing happen. I was playing a sound and all of the sudden the sound would get much brighter. I would change the preset back and forth and it would be fine again... then it happened once again.

I noticed the screen was set to TVA Level. It was the Tone A Pallete slider "re-locating" itself. Not as bad as drifting, but still not so good.

Is this a popular issue? Is it fixable? Maybe just blow some dust cleaner under the sliders and knobs? Give the sliders a little workout while watching TV? Can't think of much else. Thought I'd run it by you guys since this is a popular synth here...

Yeah, that's pretty common. Whenever I "get serious" (record or compose) with my JD-800, I go through all the sliders and move them up and down a couple times to free up any dust that might cause the problem.

I've heard people here on VSE advise against using canned air, since that pushes the dust INTO the electronics. I like those Endust Electronic Wipes that you can buy - thaat helps some.

if you can find a reasonable synth tech in your area, pay them some green to clean them up. most of my old monos have been cleaned over the past few weeks- they work like new now! not having to worry about poor contacts, scratchy/faulty controls, bad keys.. golden.

So ney on the canned air... makes sense I guess.

Problem is I'm playing some live shows soon and don't have time for a doctor checkup... and I like to do minor repairs myself..
