UGH...any way to reset a TR-808? start & fill buttons...

Post by space6oy » Thu Apr 10, 2008 6:42 pm

my 808's start/stop button and tap/fill buttons stopped working last night. still runs when slaved and everything else still works fine. feel like it happened because of my slipping and switching it to write mode while everything was muted and it was still running.

i'm not that torn up about the start/stop, pretty much always slave this thing, but losing the manual fill trigger totally sucks.

any suggestions? ran through the manual again and didn't see any.

also yes i've tried every mode and have the din/sync jack switched to out when i'm trying to make it run itself. hit it w/ a little contact cleaner but knew that wasn't the scenario since it happened to both buttons and they're on opposite sides, haven't opened it up yet...

Not the answer you're looking for, but would save a trip to the tech and/or opening the unit up:

By a couple of footpedals/switches and plug them into the back...

that's a very interesting suggestion...know what kind of pedals it will cooperate w/? maybe this guy? tried a yamaha sustain pedal and a lexicon a/b pedal, neither had a reaction.

I actually have never used the pedals on my 808 since I have the Kenton MIDI kit. I would think thr DP-2's would work. If not, LiveWire (sold at Guitar Center) sells a pedal with a selectable polarity.

I've got a DP-2 at home. If I have time, I'll give it a try. I'm sure it will work, bacause I have used the DP-2 to program my CR-78 - talk about a pain in the a*s!

cool, thanks! let me know if the DP-2 does work, that'd be a very inexpensive way to keep the fills working.
