A very big doubt

Post by glettera » Sun May 18, 2008 4:50 pm

First of all sorry for my poor english, I'm from Argentina and I'm new in this forum.
My gear: Motif XS8, nad many VST (ivory, komplet, etc).
I always like Emerson, Yes, Floyd, etc and now Dream Theatre.
I want to buy my firs synth and it is very difficult to make the choise.
What do you think about Virus TI or Moog Voyager or any other you know.
Is importat to know that I don't like electronic music or house, etc.

Thanks to all of you
Gabriel

I would suggest the Voyager for you, based on what you like. Those bands used the original Minimoog's in the 70's, and Dream Theater uses a Synthesizers.com modular if memory serves me right. They also use digitals similar to your Motif I think. The Moog will provide a more creamy solo sound. It is monophonic, of course.

The Virus TI would be more suitable if you were doing more music with pads and needed more complex sounds. It also sounds more precise and clean when compared to the Voyager.

Hope that helps!
Well fffff.

What about Korg Radias, is this an option. What do you think?

Thanks

The Korg Radius would cover much of the same ground as the TI I think. Again, the Radius would be more if you wanted analog pads along with everything else. Most of the time in those 70's recordings, they would have a synth solo which would be the Minimoog. Sometimes they might have a pad or so, but this was usually a string ensemble of some type I believe.

Are you looking to only play one note at a time or do you like to play chords?
Well fffff.

I think that i will play chords. May be i have to be more expresive about my needs.
I like the moog sounds and i know that it is mono, but i like the pads to.
I was looking youtube to see Virus, Moog and Radias, and i like them all but i don't know wich is best for me.
I saw many electronic songs and i dont want this stuff.
I like JM Jarre of course i like that kind of pads and sounds.
Sorry is very difficult for me to express my self and i dont know if you can undestand.

Thank so much
Gabriel

Have you considered the Alesis Andromeda? It's close in price with the rest, and is all analog. They're new, too. The Andromeda you can basically do almost anything with as it has modular capabilities as well. The only downfall is you might not understand it so well since it can be complicated to learn. But the sound of it is amazing. Try looking into that and see what you think?
