DMX Mod Advice

Upon viewing an image of a similar mod, I have decided to try to mod my DMX.

I wish to put 8 pots on the top row which vary a voltage (presumably +5V) pulled from the power supply of the DMX. I use the CV molex connector from the back and wire the pots to that so that I do not have to solder anything directly to a voice card.

My question: I know that splitting a voltage is acceptable (via Ohm's Law), but it will split the current. So I don't want to tap into a point on the PS and split the current causing an issue to the machine. Anyone have any advice on this type of issue?

Thanks.

So I couldn't decide whether or not I wanted to put these pots on the machine by drilling holes in the case or figuring out a way to do it externally.

So today I went to the local electronics store and they had the molex connector that matched so I decided to make an external box.

I bought 8 50k linear pots and mounted them inside a $5 radioshack project box and mounted a DC jack on the side. I also had an old External Zip 100 wall wart PS that puts out +5v so I use that to send 5v to all of the pots and send that voltage to the molex connector and so I have a way to tune my DMX without opening the case. It is pretty nice.

Here is a link to a poorly made video.

The most time consuming part was using a hacksaw to saw down the posts on the pots (radioshack pots have long shafts). Otherwise, if you have a 5v source, then you can do this very easily. It is easier to put in the machine and pull 5v from the PS, but I just didn't feel like drilling the case today.
