frustrated with tr-rec & the horrible manual for the mc-

first off, i'm a bit of a newbie. my old band had a 505 that i used to mess around with a little, and recently i wanted to get an inexpensive little box to program beats with, so i got the 307 off of ebay.

i get the part of choosing tr-rec, and the 16 keys representing 4 beats, scrolling with the >> and << to get to the next measure, and the different scales for triplets, etc. when i follow the manual, i light up the keys where i want the drum parts to sound, and then i am supposed to turn off tr-rec and assign the kick, and snare, etc. but i can't seem to assign sounds, so i'm doing something wrong. i've been sitting at work and its bugging me so i figured i would ask.

is the issue that i have to assign first one drum part? do i turn on the tr-rec button, light up where the beat should be, and then assign the kick, and then turn on the tr-rec button again, light up where i want the beat, and then turn it off to assign the snare, and then go through over and over until i have laid everything out?

i know this probably sounds like an easy question for you all, but can anyone just run me through the basics of tr-rec on the mc-307, because it's driving me crazy. i want beats out of my head and coming through the monitors

thanks

TR-RECis fairly straightforward in the MC series.

However you don't state you have a manual for the MC-307, so i suggest you download it here in PDF format ftp://ftp.roland.co.uk/ProductSupport/M ... 307_OM.pdf and read through pages 68 - 71 for the setup
and basics of TR-REC, this shows you how to input drum patterns XOX style.

HTH :)

thanks,
i realized the confusion came because the selected parts don't take effect until after the pattern cycles through
