SH 101 Bender + LFO not working...what am I missing?

Post by Jazzpunk » Thu Jul 24, 2008 3:05 am

I'm trying to figure out if the 'bender' on my SH 101 crapped out or if I'm having some kind of brain fart! The LFO mod has been triggering fine but after a lengthy tweaking session last night, it's no longer having any effect (VCO and VCF still respond as expected).

Am I overlooking something simple or is the bender acting up?

Thanks!

The Mod switch is a little membrane button attached to the bottom of the pitch stick that depresses against its metal cradle when you rock the stick forward. If the pitch stick comes disoriented in its cradle or the button just plain loses electrical contact, it could stop working. Only thing I can think of to try and fix it is to open up the unit, temporarily remove the bender board and reseat the pitch stick.

Does it work if you both lift up and push the pitch stick?

Doesn't work if I lift the pitch stick but thanks for the suggestion.

How dodgy is it crackin' one of these open?

When you open it up it's right there.

I haven't opened one in a while and I remembered having to remove some boards but that was for something else. My pitch bend is broken. :( It mechanically still works but the lever was broken when my brother bought it. For me it's split in half top separated from bottom. Still bends and triggers the lfo if you push it a certain way.

If you test it out and it doesn't work anymore you might want to check ebay. A seller named chipforbrains sells remade replacements all the time. I haven't gotten one because my brother doesn't want to sell it to me. He can buy it himself then. :P

It should be visible right after opening it up just like in the photo. You may have to remove the bender board (just above it) to check and see if the wiring is still intact for the button. Removing the bender board will also give you access to check the terminal where the bender connects to the board.

It should be easy to get it apart and put it back together. I've removed the entire assembly from the case several times and never had trouble getting it all back together.

Sorry if this is too obvious but:

make sure you've got the 3 sliders next to the bender not set at zero.
those sliders affect the depth of the effect of the lever.

I have the same problem with mine.

When it doesn't work, I just push it really hard until I hear a "click" sound and then it works again for a few days. Dodgy, but it works.

I was able to readjust it a bit without having to remove the bender board and now it's all good.

Thanks for the help guys! :D
