Jomox 888 Sample Loading Help Needed

Post by JSRockit » Thu Aug 14, 2008 3:56 am

I'm trying to load samples into my Jomox 888. I was able to load one short sample sucessfully into the S05 clap bank. I then tried to load two samples into the S06 ride bank (both samples under 1 sec long) and they did not load...those slots just became blank once I booted the machine. Since I had blank samples, I figured I'd try to reload all of the default sample via the editor...which Jomox said contained all of the original samples. I reset all the banks and then sent all banks to the Jomox at once. It said it would take 51 minutes to complete...but only took about 20 minutes. However, once I rebooted the machine, sample banks S02-S21 are all empty. I'm using a macbook with OS 10.5, OS 1.4 on the 888, the editor for the 888 (not the 999), and an Elektron TM-1 (which I tested and confirmed was working via Jomox's test app). This is driving me crazy since I NEED to load my own samples to make this completely useful for my needs. What am I doing wrong?

The jomox loader works in two parts.

It will load the HH, Claps, and rim first. and then confusingly enough will say 'load complete'. However if you leave it alone, it will start loading again, which is when it does the crash and ride.

I had that problem a few times, so I think thats whats happening...

However, what do you mean by...

I then tried to load two samples into the S06 ride bank

That threw me off a bit.

was it two samples across two different banks (as in two rides in S06 and S07), or two samples in the same bank (S06 ride and crash)

Sorry, S06 ride and crash... lol. Was doing it from memory last night. It appears that, despite the app saying the Elektron TM-1 is working, the TM-1 may be the problem. So basically, I should just try again tonight and leave it alone for an hour?

yeah just leave it for a while, I reloaded my 999 a couple of times and it took quite a while. you have to ignore what the units screen says and go off the computer loading bar usually (due to the two part thing i mentioned last time)

I always used one of those USB to MIDI leads, just a generic one and it always worked, so did using a midi lead from my MOTU interface. I never used the TM1 but it would be strange for it not to work, however i cant say for sure that it would...

Before reloading the whole thing try a couple more individual ones just to make sure, as it may be the program itself...

Just so you know, it cant be the sample length or bit rate etc, as the jomox loader was changed to auto convert the samples a while back.

It was the Elektron TM-1... it wasn't working as it should with the Jomox...since Jomox said it was a tested and approved device. I used my MOTU Ultralite instead and it worked correctly.

Good, at least you figured it out. Strange that the TM1 didnt work though...

now you have to make something with the samples in it and post it for everyone!

Well, it will take me awhile... a long while I think... it is such a strange machine, that everything I make right now sounds a bit off. I can hear the potential...so I'm going to try to stick with it until it clicks. To be honest, now that I got my samples in...they don't sound that cool as 8 bit. Also, I think I like the MBase01 kick better so far. We'll see...I have a lot of work to do...and it is fun as h**l hearing this thing boom.
