Ext Clk

Post by Darren » Thu Aug 21, 2008 1:09 am

I have an SH-101 here and I was wondering if it were possible to sync the unit using an audio out from my Ultralite? My old R-100 has a separate jack for clk (clock or click?) and I was wondering if I could do the same with my Ultralite since the R-100 lags (a lot).

Have you tried it?

I never had any success triggering my Juno arp from audio sources, even short rimshot-type sounds. Trigger inputs generally require a positive DC signal (eg, 2.5 to 15V, a few milliseconds in length). Audio is AC (that is, it goes positive and negative many times, even for a short click sound). Audio is generally lower in level than trigger requirements.

Some people report fine results using audio to trigger; I reckon you'd increase your chances by using the shortest possible sound you can, and boosting the level as high as you can.

This is a "Help" topic, by the way. :)

I don't see why it shouldn't work, as long as the voltage is right - I can trigger the arpeggiator on my MonoPoly fine using an audio pulse; in fact, I usually have to turn the trigger output down so that only the first waveform peak (I usually trigger with a kick drum) triggers it. As Nathan suggests, just try it - you won't blow up your equipment or anything, and if it doesn't work immediately, tweak a few volumes and it may do.

Thanks for the help. I am starting to wonder if my unit is having problems since nothing seems to be working.

I will have to wait and see if I can get my R-100 (half a country away) and test it out.

Edit: I tried using the Gate out from my TB-303 to the Ext Clk In and to my surprise it actually worked. Thanks again for the help.
