Been playing with my Yamaha CS-10..

Post by kylejun06 » Fri Aug 22, 2008 7:24 am

and I've come to a dilemma. I haven't been able to sculpt any sound that I want. I've been trying to make a nice pure square wave sound, but it just comes out distorted. I don't know if something's wrong with the synth, or if my subtractive synthesis skills are horrible. Can anyone help?

I don't know what your skills are, but here's what I'd say:

1. Make sure the LFO mod of the oscillator is at zero.
2. Switch the switch to PW, and turn it to zero.
3. Turn the saw volume and the noise volume in the mixer to zero, turn the square all the way up.
3. Switch the filter to LPF.
4. Turn the filter LFO mod to zero.
5. Turn the cutoff frequency to H
6. Turn the resonance to L.

If that doesn't give you a pure square, then I would say there is something wrong with your CS!

It could also be a crappy audio connection, or something simple like the input gain on whatever you're plugging into.

Hey Automatic Gainsay, I tried all this, and it doesn't seem to be right. But, I don't really know if that's how my CS is supposed to sound, or if there is something actually wrong.

Here's a sound sample I recorded. It goes from 64 feet to 2 feet, all with the note C. the first 6 are the square waves. and the last 6 are saw waves. Thanks!

That definately does not sound right, it sounds like the lfo is on full speed.

Does the LFO speed knob change the sound at all?
