My Yamaha SY77 preset voices don't sound right

Post by ChewZTony » Fri Sep 05, 2008 6:21 am

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I purchased a used Yamaha SY77 a few years ago. My SY77 played well for several years. Then recently the internal battery died, so I soldered a replacement battery onto its board and reattached its cables. When the internal battery died, I lost all my saved voices (RAM) with the exception of the preset voices on its ROM chips. Even now when I power up the keyboard, I can select the individual preset voices from ROM, but the voices all sound like they are 5 octaves too high. Every voice is high pitched. Is there a universal setting that was saved to RAM that may have been affected when the internal battery died?

It's late and I don't have my documents handy BUT it is know that changing a back-up battery, the surgery must be made WITHIN 3~5min max. Longer than that, the RAM drains and it loses its content OR the data can go corrupted.

You'll have to search with Google for the factory presets and reload them back in.

As I'll have the chance, I'll check that up to see if I'm not totally delirious.

did the master tuning get set to +64 (half steps)? losing all power can scramble your settings i suppose. btw, i think you can download the .pdf manual for the SY77 from the Yamaha website.

Code: Select all

system utility > master tuning > note shift
if the note shift is set to +64 or something, there's your problem. set it to 0.

Thanks, xpander.

I checked the master tuning (note shift) and changed it to "0" and all is well again. My wife's already asleep, but I'm still playing my synth. Thank God for headphones. LOL. Thanks again. :-)

Awesome. Glad to hear it was just that. I have the tendency to assume that people have checked the obvious first (like parameters)... Professional problem: I think in terms of electronic issues. Thanks Xpander.

Rock on!
