Homemade sequencers

Post by Blackie1 » Mon Sep 08, 2008 3:09 am

Are homemade analog sequencers difficult to build? How much electronics knowledge is needed? Maybe just something like an 8 step? Just something small. Do they sell kits or anything? I googled it and could find too much.

Great, thanks. I may buy all the parts individually and create my own. How do you think the steps would change to make an 8 step instead of 10?

there's a patch cable that you plug into the step that you want it to stop at, like if you plugged the cable in step 10, it'd be a 9-step, etc.

Here's one I'm currently making (my own design):

Image

8 steps, each with LED and step on/off switch.
Internal clock, with rate knob, and output jack.
External clock in jack (trigger it from positive pulses)
CV/Gate out (with both V-trig and S-trig jacks)
Reset button
Manual/Auto switch (with manual step advance button)
Sequence length selector switch (1-8 steps)
Glide knob.
Oh, and a stop/start switch. Haha.

Once it's ready, I'll be happy to make them for interested parties.

That looks great^^^^

PM'ed about parts.

Oh, and sequencers need a synth to control them, right? They don't create their own sounds.

Thanks for the compliment 8)

Actually, it's the other way round - the sequencer controls the synth. The sequencer puts out signals that control the oscillator or whatever you route it to on your synths. Some sequencers do come with a built-in mini-synth; or you could think of them as a mini-synth with a built-in mini-sequencer.

Music From Outer Space are good for DIY projects if you're interested in that.

The midibox seq doesn't look too difficult to build, relatively speaking. Kits for the guts of the thing can be ordered from smash tv. www.ucapps.de
