Indigo with problems

Post by MAL » Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:49 am

Hello, everyone-

I recently purchased an Access Virus Indigo from a seller on Ebay. It was listed in "excellent condition", and the seller's ratings were great. So, in such a good mood was I, I did not bother to grill him on the technicalities of its condition... this has always been my procedure when buying online, but this time I didn't bother to ask. Mistake number one, I know. Anyways...

1. The transpose down button sticks when pressed. It still works, but it seems that there may have been some kind of organic substance spilled on it or something.
2. The LFO 2 Edit section is completely screwed. When I press Env Mode, the board thinks I am trying to save my patch. Am I just stupid, or should that button not simply activate LFO 2's Envelope Mode? What's more, pressing the Edit button makes the board think you're trying to change patches.
3. Pressing the Ctrl or Edit buttons on the central panel causes the volume to fluctuate: one press takes the volume completely away, and another brings it back up at half capacity. Then a third press brings it back to normal volume. Weird.
4. Various pots around the board are loose.

Items 1-3 are quite probably the result of a localized spill or maybe concussion damage to that part of the board, no? That's all I can figure. Is there some kind of system restore I can apply to possibly fix something like this? I already tried the "system reset" in the manual, and that does nothing. If I reloaded the OS, would that have any effect? Could I possibly open the thing up and clean up (whatever that would entail) the stuff that's possibly in there? Or am I just completely screwed here?

The pots can be handled when they decide to completely come off- that's not too much of a problem. And thank christ all the other features seem to work without error, although I have not tested every parameter yet. I suppose it is still usable in this condition, and I don't think I will get rid of it. But damn, you know?

Update

Well, it seems I may have solved my own problem. I reloaded OS 4.9 T to my Indigo, and it seems that it did the trick. It was very strange, though- when I first reloaded, all the defects were still there. Then, after about 5 more minutes of messing around, it just snapped and everything was fine all of a sudden. Could it be that the OS was still re-programming some of the parameters, even though it had, to all appearances, finished reloading? Or is this just some insane coincidence???

Digital synths can do that and even more weirder things. But I won't go in a lecture, be reassured. Usually, reloading the OS solves the problem and it can take a few minutes for the EEPROM & the CPU to 'discuss' with each other and make things right.

Let us know if there's new problems.
