Korg Triton freezes after boot

Post by Pavka » Wed Oct 01, 2008 7:01 am

Hello!

I've been lurking on the forum for about a yeah and now seemes to be a good time to make my first post.
2 days ago i bought a used Korg triton classic, and as the thread topic hints i have a problem with it.

It started a while after i fired it at home for the first time. The operating system froze and all led:s and buttons stopped responding. I tried to reboot it and it started and booted the os, but then as you get to the user interface it freezes again. So i tried to reboot again with the same result.

After a few tries i started browsing the web but found no one that had a similar problem. So i tried to uppgrade the OS from 2.5.1 to 2.5.3
The whole process went smoothly and after the upgrade was complete it worked! I played around with it for a while and turned it for for the day.
The day after i rehearsed with my band and everything worked fine. But after the rehearsal i sat and played for a while and the same thing happened again! It just froze and then refused to work. I've tried to reinstall the OS but this time it wont work, tried it a few times actually, with the same result.

The strange thing is that when the os has loaded i can play and make sounds for about 1-2 seconds, and then it freezes.

So now I'm growing desperate, is there anyone on the forum that has a solution to my problem?

Thanks in advance

/Pavka

A few things can provoke a freeze.

1) An improper voltage can lock up the CPU. And that problem usually originates from the power supply.
2) A defective EEPROM can freeze the synth (by not transmitting all the data to the CPU).
3) Digital electronics like the Triton rely on a Crystal Oscilliator (XTAL). That component can be defective.
4) A defective Logic Gate (IC)

Please see a tech. It's not a problem you can fix by yourself (it requires some tests and you'll be dealing with SMD (surface-mount components): not obvious to desolder & resolder.

Hope that helps
