It could be the internal battery. My SP12 did a similar thing a while ago, I replaced the battery and it was functioning normally again. It´s not hard to do, even with little skills in soldering, like me.

When I had an SP12 a few years ago mine did this... the internal sounds were all screwy like zips and zaps but not cool ones. I had to do a factory reset (can't remember how, says in the manual) each time I turned it on and it came back crispy as new... annoying but worked. I wonder if I'd replaced the battery in it that woulda fixed it? Hmmm long gone so I'll never know.

I actually bought mine a few years ago at a very low price because the previous owner thought it was broken because it did all those strange sounds instead of the normal ones, and it didn´t save any pattern. When i got it home, I changed the battery and it was working like new, so probably that would have fixed it.
