D550 battery replacement
Anyone have to replace their battery? Mine went dead this week; I'd like to know which battery is used,is it soldered to the board or in a holder. How hard was it to replace....Thanks for your time.....

Re: D550 battery replacement
The battery is a lithium CR2032. You can't miss it: it looks like a shiny quarter. It is usually solder directly onto the PCB. Go to an electronics store and ask for for a CR2032 holder (really cheap). If I remember correctly, it's a 3-lead. Check the polarity of the battery before putting it in the holder. There is a + engraved on one side. It goes up, facing you. The - side goes into the holder.
Not hard to replace: just 3 solder joints. But you need to take off the PCB to work at ease.
If your battery died a week ago, chances are that all your patches are gone by now.
Hope that helps

Re: D550 battery replacement
It's not a big problem.
REMEMBER to save Your patches etc. Probably You'll lost all sounds.
Changing battery is not a big problem. Check how big diameter it has [probably 20 mm]. If You want to get longer life battery try to find one with bigger mAh
That's all. + goes up, - goes down

Re: D550 battery replacement
D-50/D-550 uses a CR2032 battery. It's not soldered in; it's in a holder (yes, Roland got smart). Pop the cover, remove the battery, insert new battery, replace cover, done!

Re: D550 battery replacement
Thanks for the precision, I've totally forgotten it.
(I do not change battery often... usually people prefer to do it themselves and then save time and some $).
Thanks Synthaolic to set things right on this

Harass me???
I owe you more than you can imagine.
I'm currently working (among other things) to a collection of books that will be available on my website. Complete, not for engineers but for musicians, with picture and all. [Yeah, they will be foolproofed before hitting the site to avoidyou my grammatical error, typos and other bursts of insanity].

Re: D550 battery replacement
thanks all,
I just got a message on my d550 that the internal battery was low.
after more than 15 years! I hope my internal patches (factory) are still there.
Anyone know where I can get them back if they are gone.
I have one external card. anyone know where I might get others.
thnks, ray

Re: D550 battery replacement
You can get the factory patch sets from here: http://bobbyblues.recup.ch/roland_d-50/ ... banks.html
Scroll down to the PN-D50-00 soundbank. You can download the sysex file from there. Then use MIDI-OX or another utility to dump the patches into your D-550.
The additional Roland card banks are available there for download as well.
