tr606, x0xb0x and FR revolution sync problems

Post by jeeroj » Wed Jan 14, 2009 5:20 pm

First of all, hello everybody :)

I just picked up a tr606 today, it seems to function fine but I'm having trouble getting it to sync to either my FR revolution or my x0xb0x. I've got the switch on the back set to 'input' but when i press play on my FR the 606 does nothing.:(
Same with the x0xb0x I've tried syncing to and syncing from with no luck.:(
I've also just tried syncing the x0xb0x and revolution together and this doesn't work either!

so having answered all the questions I was going to ask by myself #-o , I'm left with one last one:

Is a 5 pin din cable different to a MIDI cable?

And you have connected the din sync output from the revolution to the 606 right? Not midi out...

yup, it's defo plugged into the revolutions dinsync out with a midi cable. :)

I've got to have missed something as I can't get the revolution and x0xb0x to sync but I can get them to run together via midi :(

And revolution is set to internal when connected to the 606 right?

yes, I'm using it as master so it has to be set to internal for me to be able to press play to start the whole chain.
the connections are:
Revolution MIDI out to x0xb0x MIDI in
revolution dinsync out to roland sync with switch at input position.

the 606 is set on pattern--play, on the mode knob

Have you tried only connecting the x0xb0x and the 606 together?

Also, not all MIDI cables are compatible with DIN Sync connections. MIDI uses different pins to DIN Sync, and some MIDI cables are wired up only with the MIDI pins connected. If you haven't got a multimeter or something to test your cable with, you can use a standard 5-pin DIN audio lead, wired pin-to-pin. They're commonly available in electronics shops, etc.

know some may not work, but my revo, x0xb0xes and 606 all communicate fine via cheap midi cables from radio shack. grab a pack of those to try, only costs a few bucks and it never hurts having a few more cables.

Thanks Nathan :) That was my theory (albeit with less know-how ;) ) and I was planning on getting hold of some tomorrow...

Cheers Space6oy, when I saw your tip I had tried all the cables I could find but I thought "i'm sure I had one more" so I had a rummage around and found it. I plugged it in feeling like Charlie opening a Wonka Bar, pressed play and... TA DAA!!! everybody is talking to each other :) :) :) :)

Thanks so much guys!!

I've no idea, they are old midi cables I've had for a while.

I've found that the expensive cables like monster cables to not work with din sync while the cheap hosas work fine.
