JX-3P FROZEN
After the replacement of the internal battery, my JX-3P is frozen. None of the buttons respond, but the lights for SEQUENCER LOAD and the left NOTE buttons are permanently lit. I figured it would need its factory programs re-installed, but I can't do that with the buttons unresponsive.
Any ideas?

Re: JX-3P FROZEN
There is some kind of reset function for the JX-3P if i remember correctly!
But this depends on the JX's EPROM version.
But you could try it out though, and see what happens?
1. switch off the JX3P
2. set the MIDI/Programmer-switch on the rearside to the MIDI-Position
3. connect the MIDI-Input with the MIDI-Output
4. press and hold six keys of the keyboard
5.switch on the JX3P and release the six keys after two seconds
Remember: This will disable the Omnimode and set the JX3P to MIDI-Channel 1 only. All other functions cannot be reached this way
Newer EPROM-Version only: Switching power on means a reset. So holding the needed tone selector button while switching on is one off the possible ways.
Newer EPROM-Version only: Switching from "Tape Memory" mode to normal mode results in a reset too. So if you need to change a setting of a hidden function, you should hit the "Tape Memory" button, then press and hold the needed button and hit the "Tape Memory" button again and leave the tone selector button then is the second way.

Didn't work.
Thanks for the help though. I couldn't find that reset info anywhere.

Re: JX-3P FROZEN
The battery in the JX-3P is for backup only (patches and storage), i don't see
how it could affect the whole synth? As it changing it, won't short out any
other circuits ?

Re: JX-3P FROZEN
I had this same problem, and since no one posted a solution I will tell you what my fix was. I noticed that the freeze only happened on an angled stand, when flat it worked fine. It seems the replacement battery I put in was floating in there attached to two wires soldered to the original battery posts. When it would tilt, it moved around in there and shorted the board. I wrapped the battery in electrical tape and the problem was solved.
Re: JX-3P FROZEN
I would check the voltages on the CPU section of the main board. Did you disconnect any of the multiconductor cables from the headers when you swapped out the battery? This sounds like +5V is not getting to everything on the CPU board, or one of your connectors is not making a good connection. If I were you, I would get the service manual, then choose some select points on the panel boards and the CPU section of the main board and verify that the DC is showing up where it should. That's step 1. Also be sure that your battery isn't shorting to a trace or wasn't installed backwards.
If you verify that power is indeed present, then it's probably time to verify that the CPU is functioning. A nice place to start is at the analog muxes that distribute the signal from the DAC. Use the scope to see if there's any activity there. If not, then work backwards. Are the address lines to the muxes doing anything? Is the CPU clock present? Is there activity on the data and address lines? Once you have an answer to these questions, you ought to be able to piece together what the problem is.
