Ok, so I'm thinking about buying a Roland JX-3P however, it has a problem. When turning the volume knob it creates a static interference at high volume at around 9-10. However, there is no problem when the knob is left alone. Can this be easily fixed and if left alone can it lead to greater problems? Do I just need to clean the volume pot? Here is an audio demo of what I'm talking about. Also, hes selling it for $215, is that a good deal?
At the beginning, the volume is at 10. I play a couple chords, and then I hold a long one and turn the volume all the way down, and all the way back up. You can hear the static in the middle, but you can also hear that it stops before the volume gets all the way up, and when the volume is not moving, it doesn't affect the sound. Would appreciate a quick response to anyone that knows about this problem, as I'm probably going to purchase this synth soon.

Re: Roland JX-3P Volume pot..
common problem on most vintage synths. replace the pot. Roland may still be able to supply one. otherwise you'll need to get a re[lacement from a parts house. in an emergency, you can carefuly open the pot and clean it.

Re: Roland JX-3P Volume pot..
Does it have the 'sound' you want?
From some quick research, that price is okay for a JX-3P in need of minor work. Me, I'd probably just avoid 9 and 10 on the knobs for awhile. Look s like music stores want $400 for them....

Well, honestly it first caught my attention because of the price. I thought it was a good deal. But, I guess its not, I checked ebay, and a good condition JX-3P went for 280+shipping, so I know $215 isn't that great or bad of a deal.Ashe37 wrote:Does it have the 'sound' you want?

The Ensoniq ESQ-1 caught my eye at first but the seller won't provide pics, and he says its not in perfect condition and the notes get stuck. However, after I did some research it seems all you have to do is clean the key contacts. But I'd drive 3 hours up there blind, not knowing how good or bad the condition is. He would just say "I'll tell you right now, its not in perfect condition" so yeah.. I wanted to make Boards of Canada type sounds and the ESQ-1 appealed to me, which I know isn't really like the warm, lush, sound of the JX-3P. Maybe I'll call up the Ensoniq seller again and see if he still has it..

the JX does sound good... I'll give it that.
Re: Roland JX-3P Volume pot..
most old synths do this, just turn the pot really fast for a few minutes and it should go away. if not it's no big deal, you record/play at the same volume anyway
