Help Out A Total Newbie... Sending Patches

How would I go about sending some patches contained in a .syx file from my computer to my synth?

My computer is connected to my Ensoniq SQ-80 with a standard MIDI cable and I've successfully used Anvil studio to play MIDI songs on the synth.

I just don't know how to go about transferring the data. How do I enable the synth to receive the file? What software do I use? Please help :?

let me dig out my SQ-80 manual and i'll get back to you. chances are, you'll just need a program to 'send' the sysex.
try downloading "MIDIOX" from the web and see what happens. IIRC the -80 has a setting for "receive MIDI"and "receive MIDI and SYSEX".

I tried MIDIOX and I didn't know where to start... I tried to "set up" the MIDI device (synth) and got it to send the sysex file (or I assume so, it had the progress bar and it finished), but I couldn't figure out how to set up the SQ-80 to receive. I looked at the MIDI and STORAGE pages but it seems they only pertain to sending patches between SQ-80/ESQ-1 synths and then tape and floppy storage, I couldn't find "Sysex" anywhere :(

found it. says here: go to the MIDI page (press the MIDI button) and set MIDI ENABLE to "ENABLE=KEYS+CT+PC+SS+SX", then RETURN to any program page. be sure both the midiox program and the SQ-80 are on the same channel.

try that and let us know

That was it! I enabled this mode, sent the file and voila, my internal bank was full of new patches from the SysEx file I sent. Thank you very much :D
