Help syncing an early-model Oberheim DX?!

Post by TheKBRT » Tue Mar 24, 2009 2:52 pm

Hey guys!

Total forum noob here. Used the site a lot for research and just now found the forums :D

HI!

Anyway...

I am trying to sync an older Oberheim DX (pre-MIDI) with the rest of my rig (via Midisport 4x4 and Ableton Live). It only has tape sync, but I just purchased a PPS-2 Synchronizer, hoping to use it to convert the tape sync to midi sync, or vice versa.

I fiddled with it a bit last night and am pretty stumped. It seems I tried every possible setting on that box (the PPS-2) and I still get no results. I'm also having a rough time finding a manual for my version of the DX, which could be part of the issue.

Anyway...

Does anyone here have experience with this sort of thing? Any tips or pointers? Anything I am missing?

Thanks in advance!

Oh, I thought i should mention that I do not care what is the master and what is the slave. I just need everything to be in sync.

I used to send the metronome out to a trigger input on my DM5 Pro Drum module, then send that midi note data to Ableton Live to use as a "tap tempo" signal...but that doesn't always work the way i'd like.
