Akai AX80 Preset Casette Needed PLEASE
Hello,
I have been looking for 10 years for a the preset casette (copy) willing to pay. I loaned my AX80 to a band as a favor, got it back all jacked up. Bought the AX80 new in about 85, now it sets wrapped up and cant use it!! I look around every once and a while now found this site. Any help is VERY appreciated. And or any info on how you can restore it without the casette. I am not all that handy with this stuff so building my own sound bank from scratch is not an option fo me....

Re: Akai AX80 Preset Casette Needed PLEASE
the 32 presets patches in bank "P" are in ROM and cannot be erased...they should still be there. i had no luck finding a tape of the original "A" and "B" banks. i have a AX-80 in the shop now. will be a while before i get to it, but i intend to do a tape dump before i change the battery, and i can send you a copy. it does not play right now. so i have no idea if there any patches left, or if the are original or user-made.
Kid Nepro list no patches for sale, so if i can't dump any useable for you, you'll just have to make you own.
as a last resort, the service manual has the factory a and b banks printed out as a spread-sheet. i can send you a copy and with patience, you could poke them back into the synth number by number.

Re: Akai AX80 Preset Casette Needed PLEASE
well, let's get started.
there is room for 96 patches (sounds) in the ax-80. there are 32 in bank "A", 32 in bank "B", and 32 in bank "P".
the 32 in bank "P" are permanant: they are burned into the memory at the factory and cannot be changed (or lost).
banks A and B came loaded with patched from the factory, but these can be changed, loaded by tape with new sounds, or lost if the battery goes dead.
this is a vintage synth and does not use 'combis', 'set-ups' or such, so each patch in each bank is serpeate....that is, it does not 'use' any other patch sound.
questions (you can pm me or email me)
do you have the manual?
what synths have you had experence programming?
do all 32 bluegreen bars on the display light up?
does each orange bar light up when each of the 32 buttons are pressed?
bill

Re: Akai AX80 Preset Casette Needed PLEASE
Sure if you can upload it as a .wav? Also since im in this tread I want to ask:
Is it normal that the only freaking parameter you can't control real time is the cut-off?
Anyone have the service manual? The seller had it, I payed a very high price for the synth and he still wouldn't want to me have it or make a copy (he claimed to have a scanner) even though the ax80 he sold me was his only one. He had no use for it. I don't even think he was a tech, the thing had what I hope was dried up chocolate milk (!) spilled inside and smelled like perfume haha. It also had the most noisy display board ever, I had to make a screen of tin foil and cardboard so it would "crosstalk" into the voiceboard. Cheers!

i'll give it a try. i'm very old-school. never made a .WAV file before. if success, I'll post here.
manual: best bet is http://www.transanalog.com. always gives me great/fast service.
As i told Denco: not sure these are 100% factory.

Re: Akai AX80 Preset Casette Needed PLEASE
Thanks! Yes I understand they may be altered patches.
Could you tell me if its normal that the cutoff can't be adjusted in real time? I have to retrigger the note to hear it.
I was looking for a pdf version of the service manual, but thanks anyway
EDIT: I have found out that its normal for the cutoff the behave that way.

Re: Akai AX80 Preset Casette Needed PLEASE
I know I'm two years late on this one, but if anyone who received a tape with factory presets has converted it to .WAV, please contact me. Would L-O-V-E to get my AX80 A/B banks back.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

Welcome to the board.
I have given away all my tape copies...yes - stupidly even the master - but I may still be able to get something off of another AX-80 still on the shelf. I'll PM you if I do. Otherwise, get the service manual and start entering (lol).

Thanks for the welcome and the reply! Great, let me know if you end up grabbing something; however, not sure if its worth the trouble. Surprising no one's done a digital conversion by now. But you're exactly right - may be time to start punching buttons
Thanks again!

Thanks, friend. Hope this helps AX80-ites everywhere.
NOTE: the two files are the same data recorded at two different sample rates so you can use the one that loads best.
