Roland XP-30 117V model runs fine on 240V?!

Post by mingle » Thu Jun 11, 2009 6:52 am

Hi,

I've just picked up an XP-30 (very nice machine) which was originally purchased in Taiwan and so has an Asian 117V mains power-rating on the unit , along with a US-type power plug.

However the previous owner had been running it on the normal Australian 240V mains (using a simple plug adaptor (not step-down transformer). It was running fine when I demoed the machine too...

Does anyone know if Roland fitted universal (multi-voltage) power supplies inside the later (XP onwards) synths?

I know older models (S-50, D-50, Juno-2, etc) all had multi-voltage mains transformers inside, but you have to manually rewire the transformer inputs to select the relevant voltage...

... or am I playing with fire running it on 240 volts? :-)

Just to be safe, I've been using it with a 110V step-dwon transformed since I brought it home and it's going just fine...

I haven't opened the unit up yet - too many screws - but would appreciate it if anyone out there could offer comments or suggestions...

Cheers,

Mike.
