Alpha Juno Battery Help

Post by lostyetfound » Tue Jul 14, 2009 10:15 am

Hi,
My AJ2 (Well, HS-80) started coming up with "Check Battery!" on start up and it wouldn't keep the user patch memories. Dead battery, obviously.

So, I went in and removed the battery, soldered a proper pop-out battery holder onto the board (For ease of change in the future, Roland penny pinchers soldered the original battery onto the board) and popped in a new battery.

Now, this is where it is strange...it still says "Check Battery!" on start up, yet it now holds the user patch memories. Left it off overnight and they're still there, so the battery is working...however, the board now loses all it's settings (i.e. midi settings etc) even though I change them and write them successfully.

If I remove the battery, it loses all my patches, so the battery is working...anyone know if there is some sort of reset to let it know it has a new battery, or is there a 2nd battery (I don't think there is) that I've missed which takes care of the system settings?

Can't understand why it keeps the patches, but not the system settings...

Hi lostyetfound

I found this on the yahoo user group:

"
After battery replaced, should do the following:

1. Power off
2. Set protect to off
3. Power on while holding down Portamento and Data Transfer

This resets the RAM and solve the Check Battery problem.
"

- from txt in the files folder uploaded by gil_we

I hope it sorts it out. Cheers!

Hi,
Thanks for replying, but this didn't work. However, you mentioned the "Yahoo User Group", so I joined that and someone else had the problem.

Apparently the HS-80 has a different reset for this, in case anyone else needs it:

Memory Protect Off
Power on whilst holding "Data Transfer" and "Brilliance" buttons.

This solved it!

Thanks again for your efforts.

Hi lostyetfound

So close, yet so far...aghh  Glad you found the solution :D BTW If you don't already have something to program the synth with, you should look into the BCR-2000. Cheers!
