Hello eveybody
I'm a newbye of this site and I would like to thanks the administrators for the bulky quantity of information available. I've a vintage Roland D50 and I've downloaded the patches stored in the relevant page on this site.
Does anyboy know how to use this file? I've tried to use this file as a SYSex bulk on my Cakewalk program but the D50 (set as bulk load without handshaking or with handshaking) gives back a MIDI Communication Error.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Maudan

Search this site or google it, this q is asked at least once a month
Hint: Try SLOWING DOWN the transfer.. you may need to use midiox or some other freeware sysex sender where you can set the transfer rate. A D-50 likes to get it's dump @ 1987 speeds not 2009 computer speeds.
Congrats on the synth btw.. one of the best DIGITAL Synths ever made!

It doesn't matter if you use a 2009 computer or a 286, as long as you use the right program. SysexD50 is the best for the task. Check your PM, I'll help you out with this.

Well the date was actually irrelevent as it was a joke, if we'd been having this discussion in 1996 or something I'd have used that year instead. Point being, it's too damn fast for a D-50 to pick up and I doubt the OP is using a 286.
Oh and I've used every midi sysex program out there, there's no such thing as a 'best one' if they all allow you the option to slow down the rate (which most do). Sysex d-50 isn't free anyway and is completely NOT essential to send a piffling sysex file to ANY synth.. midi ox or other general purpose ones will easily suffice and work with any synth..

I did not mean to say you were wrong, only to point out to the OP that SysexD50 is very good with the D-50. I know that speed is an issue with many sysex programs. I have used SysexD50 for years now on several old and new computers (98 Asus laptop, 2002 self-built, 2005 Packard bell) and it always works right away, without advanced configuring or the hazzle of finding the right speed for transfers. You just choose midi interface, channel, "one-way mode" and you're set. I'm using it now on my new 09 FSC Amilo with the M-audio Uno USB midi interface and it works perfectly like it has always done. All around great transfer tool, patch editor and librarian in a simple interface. You can adjust interpacket delay if you have trouble with transfers, but I have
never needed it. So SysexD50 is the better program for working
with the D-50. Of course you are right in that it won't deal with other synths.

True what you say, if cost is not important... I've never felt the need to use sysexd-50 myself but I have other methods for editing, and I can save profiles for the 'initial tweaks' that didn't take ME long. However, yes if the OP doesn't want to mess around with those things or doesn't understand them then... go for it
