Hi!
I have problem with my roland sh-2000. Aftertouch section doesn't work. I've looked under the hood, but everything seems to be fine - i cant find any visible damage. What can be the problem? Where should i look? What should i do?
Unfortunately i don't know much about servicing electronic devices...

You'll need the service manual (ie p.28) & and an oscilloscope to adjust the touch sensibility. Unfortunately, you'll need a tech if you're not too much at ease with servicing electronic keyboards.

You mean it can be done manipulating some internal pots? Only thing i can't do is to replace elements, solder etc.

Re: Roland SH2000 aftertouch problem
is the SH-2000 what MultiVox cloned as the MX-2000?
(lloks just like it on the VSE archive pages)
if so, the MV version has a Hall-effect sensor to trigger the aftertouch. looks like a flat transistor. the keyboard has a metal bar that moves during aftertouch and a magnet that moves toward and away from the sensor. IIRC i'vs seen them in Jameco electronics
EDIT:
found a nasty copy of the SH-2000 schematic on the net, can barely read it, but this synth DOES use the Hall sensor.
there is a 'range' and 'offset' pot also that MIGHT be part of the problem...but my money is on the sensor. Find a qualified tech.
EDIT 2:
better yet, get a real copy of the service manual from MuzikElektronix (above) and maybe even contact Steph about taking care of the problem for you.

Re: Roland SH2000 aftertouch problem
Yes, there's metal bar with flat transistor inside. I've checked it for mechanical issues, but can't find any. So it's probablyelectronic - i will look for technician.
Now, after your post about the sensor, i'm sure... when i've disassembled sh2000 first time this transistor was very suspicious for me.
Thanks!
edit: After 15 minutes synth is working perfectly again. Adjustment settle everything - two pots on control board - offset and gain - are responsible for aftertouch. In this case no oscilloscope is needed, ears are enought.
Thanks again!
