Dude, what's your studio doing in the laundry room?
Yes - it's bad, humidity rusts metal bits and adds condensation to the the innards.

This is correct. All electronic instruments should be kept in a controlled atmosphere with as close to constant temperature and humidity as you can manage. This means you'll need to ban the following things from your studio, as they add humidity and moisture:Phollop Willing PA wrote:Yes - it's bad, humidity rusts metal bits and adds condensation to the the innards.
- Laundry
- Soup
- Cups of tea
- Animals, especially cats
- Human beings
Or you could just play it, and open the door when there's washing hanging in there. I'm sure your wife doesn't hang the washing in there without a bit of airflow going though, otherwise things wouldn't get dry.

My wife is always burning the roast, do you guys think the smoke is bad for my gear?

She has an electric blender, electric toaster, electric bread maker.
Then she said, "There are too many gadgets, and no place to sit down!"
So what did I do? Bought her an electric chair.

PricklyRobot, that is awesome.

Too futurist to live.

Mebbe get one of those Dehumidifiers. FWIW, I've been taught that moisture itself isn't as bad for electronics as moisture that attracts to dust. If your 808 innards are relatively dirt free, you may be ok, assuming that room gets a chance to ventilate.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

Pure water isn't a problem.
Problem is, water is rarely pure. It will contain salts etc, especially from cleaning. These will attack the metal in your 808 etc, and cause oxidisation which will degrade and finally break the machine. Especially vulnerable are internal circuit connections, external jack sockets, and all the potentiometers.
Your 808 will suffer over time from being in a laundry room.
Drying clothes put out a LOT more moisture than cups of coffee or humans.
All you need to do is look at the state of most laundry rooms that have been there for a while. Rusty screws, corroded metal etc.
If you value your electrical and musical equipment, do not expose it to corrosive atmospheres. Keep it dry and keep the temperature temperate.
