Nord Lead **Tuning Problems**

Post by ShropshireFad » Sat Dec 19, 2009 3:58 pm

A load of the sounds on my nord are out of tune. Not blatantly so -- they're almost there -- but thats the agonizing thing because you tweak with the tuner a semi-tone this way or that but then it takes it totally out. You can't do it by cents on the nord (original nord lead), and when i've tried tweaking it by cents on logic exs24 by taking in samples of the nord i can't get it right on, theres always notes that are off.
It's enfuriating because i can't work great sounds into compositions because the tuning is so off. Surely this is a fairly major flaw that shouldn't happen in a contemporary synth. Or am i just not doing something simple?

I also tried Pitch Shifter on logic but that won't nail it either. Is there any easy-to-use affordable software that tunes automatically by detecting the pitch and just slots the notes into perft pitch? Like a kind of simplified Auto-Tune?

Would really appreciate some advice.

When you say it's out of tune, compared to what? Another synth, instrument, or a guitar tuner?

The Nord Lead is digital (virtual analog), so if it is out of tune it's because it was programmed that way, or it's being "told" to play out of tune (e.g. pitch bender not centered, or programming the patches so they're out of tune).

Have you tried jiggling the pitch bend wheel to see if that might be the culprit?

First of all, check the master tuning and make sure it's set correctly. Then check the oscillator tunings in the patches that are "out of tune". There should be cent or fine tuning when you edit the sounds.

It's out of tune compared to the soft synths and the yamaha keyboard i know to be definitely in tune.

How would i take a look at the master tuning, as opposed the tuning for the individual oscillators?

Thanks.

Page 16 of the manual reads:
1. Hold down the Shift button.
2. With the Shift button down, press the Tune button.
3. Use the Program Up/Down buttons to change the value. This is tuning in Cents, set to zero for normal 440Hz tuning.
4. Press the shift button again.
If you don't have a manual, you can download it from here: http://www.clavia.se/downloads/manuals/ ... 0(eng).PDF

This is assuming you have the original Nord Lead, not a 2, 2X, or 3.
