Hi I have a quick question. Just purchased a Nord Lead 3. I was wondering the know to rotary encoders seem to have some play in them you can move them right and left a little. Is that normal? I would appreciate someone taking a look at theirs thanx

Well, firstly I don't own any nord gear but from my experience this symptom you're describing is common to all modern synths that have encoders as opposed to the solid chunky pots of the old vintage equipment. So unfortunately it
is normal but not great if you ask me. I have a novation MIDI controller which uses encoders and they are absolutely woeful in this regard, almost moves left to right as much as it rotates
Really they're just not as solid as good old fashion pots, see the current debate regarding the DSI Prophet '08 which has had a "pot" upgrade from the original rotary encoders for this very reason.
Cheers.
