I want to link a Deltalab Effectron II Digi-Delay to my Jupiter 6 arp. Can this be done?

I'm clueless as to how pre-midi CV link ups work. Heck, I don't even know what kind of 1/4 inch cable to use. Unbalanced? Balanced? CV is electric energy traveling through a wire. It's best I err on caution. I don't want ruin a perfectly good vintage piece of equipment. Thanks so much. Leonard

I don't know anything about the Effectron Delay, but the Jupiter 6's arpeggiator input requires a pulse from a drum machine or sequencer as indicated on page 33 of the JP-6 manual.

The Deltalab Effectron II is an effects processor, isn't it? It wouldn't use the CV jacks on your synth at all. Instead, you'd run the output of the synth into the input on the Deltalab, then the output of the Deltalab to your mixer, monitors, PA or whatever. Or run the Deltalab though an effects send/return on your mixer.

The Effectron is an effects processor that has a "control" 1/4 output (in addition to "on/off", and "repeat" 1/4 in's) which I take to mean it possibly listen's for or output's a pulse via this connection. thanks.

It turns out the Effectron II product brochure in my archive is quite informative complete with signal flow diagrams. The Effectron II (1983) features external VCO control. Now I very humbly have to ask.. what the heck does this mean? It appears the 1/4 "control" is an input where incomong VCO signal controls delay length.

Can you scan and post the brochure? I could not find such info online.

Looks to me like the 'VCO Control' input you speak of requires a straightforward voltage between 0 and 5V. It also looks like the input there breaks the control path coming from the front panel's Delay Factor. Usually these inputs are designed either for an expression pedal or something like an LFO from a modular, etc.

VCO means "voltage controlled oscillator". It's a way of generating a waveform (in this case, probably one used to drive the clock on the delay) and typically the higher the voltage you stick into it, the faster it runs.

"Repeat" is probably a simple footswitch input that will allow the delayed sound to loop round like a sample.

I don't see anything on the brochure that suggests it has a clock output, so I doubt you'd be able to drive your J6 arp from it.

Yep, sounds like the same set up as the old Digitech RDS delay that I have.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, fellas. I followed up, plugged an Maudio EX-P pedal to "control". It did not trigger any delay changes. It may be a wrong spec expression pedal. (that pedal's been a disappointment) But, at least now I understand better what does what and why. Thanks, again.

The Effectron II has a great mid-range-centric analog presence (adds a slight biting full-bodied overdrive) which fits the JUP-6 perfect. Too bad it's not midi-sync capable. I'd love to find a similar early era gritty digi-delay but with midi-sync. I'm going to Europa mod the JP-6. Worse case, I wind up with sterile Digi-delay. Not so bad.

With all the JP-6's back panel CV options at hand, I've just got to explore them. Beginning with a proper expression pedal, perhaps?

Most expression pedals are passive (i.e. just a pot inside of pedal). You need a CV pedal (i.e. something that actually outputs a voltage). They're fairly simple to make.
