Debugging my Kenton Pro Solo Mk II

Post by blanik » Mon Feb 22, 2010 4:13 am

The problem i had is now fixed but i'll mention it here in case it could help someone with the same problem...

i just got a Pro Solo Mk II and when i connected it into my SH-2 and held a note on my MIDI controller the note coming out of the SH wouldn't keep the pitch, the note would vary randomly, after troubleshooting the rig (made sure the setting where ok on the Kenton, that there was no modulation, and only one osc was coming through) i couldn't find the problem, i turned the Pro Solo off and back on again and the problem was fixed for a while but started again after i touched the Pro Solo :?

i plugged my SH-09 and got the same results but when i plugged my CS-5 it worked fine... it turned out to be the jacks on my Rolands that where totally corroded, not rusty but a flat white opaque almost powdery kind of corrosion, it was so bad that merely unplugging and plugging back the CV/Gate jacks wouldn't help, so i unsoldered all the jacks and let them stand in a lime/calcium remover (called CLR) for 15 minutes and scrub the inside with a q-tip, they came back shining again (the q-tip came out black!), resoldered them back and voilà! couldn't reproduce the problem...

at first when i thought it was the unit that was buggy, i wrote to Kenton, got an immediate reply and they where very helpful and told me right away to get a new one from the store where i got it and that they would fix this with the store... so kudos for them! :-D

hope this can help someone
