1MEG, Log Pot - for Roland gear : parts source?

Post by Hybrid88 » Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:29 am

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows where to get a 1MEG, Log taper potentiometer as used in the Boss DR-55 and MC-202? They are different to the modern varieties in that they have much longer pins at a right angle to solder into the PCB.

Here's the part numbers;

Part #: 028-755 - DR-55, Tone Pot

Part #: 13219779 - MC-202, Portamento Pot

If I can't source one I'll just have to adapt a new pot to fit, but it would be nice to get the original part.

Cheers guys :D

Have you tried Roland? Their inventory of vintage parts is spotty, but you may get lucky.

Could the pins be clipped after soldering?

Just sent an e-mail, we'll see how it goes ;)

No, opposite way round, the Roland pot has the longer pins, the new one's don't (well I did find one manufacturer that does seem to make something close but finding a retailer/wholesaler with a minimum order quantity of 1 is impossible for this unusual type I think).

Cheers guys.

A bit more info if possible. 9mm / 16mm? Proprietary? Alps / Alpha / AB? Does it say anything on the part?

I think I've got some 24mm 1Meg audio, with these leads but these are probably too big.

Sure, size 16mm with spline shaft, brand is Alps, made in japan.

On the side of the pot it says DD2P 1MA (which would make it log taper, don't know what the DD2P means though).

Yeah I think 24mm would be too big, cause the pot actually fits into a bracket which is soldered into the PCB, and the pot screws to.

Thanks. :)

I bought new pots with the correct specs, then soldered longer leads to them for use in a Korg Polysix.

Yes I plan to do the same, what I don't get is, why do I consistently get blatently ignored by Roland Tech Services Aus? I mean how f#%king hard is it to send a quick e-mail either way, is it just here or the same everywhere?!? :x

Seems like the web/e-mail presence of a lot of old-school type businesses (parts suppliers and the like) is largely perfunctory, and you won't get any useful information unless you call them up.

Yeah, I will have to try ringing them. But there's just something crazy (at least to me) about having an email address on their site and not using it...

I mean they're not going to get a good reputation if they don't reply to anyone when it all comes down to it anyway, so the end result for them is that it would be better not having the friggen email in the first place?!?

you can get pots with both pin arrangements either 90deg or straight down, should just be a case of browsing the pots available on the jaycar website or something

Oh trust me I've not started this thread lightly, I've looked almost everywhere, searching has proven it very hard to find anything suitable.

The only 1Meg from jaycar is the wrong shaft type, d**k Smith is outta the components game, only place I've managed to find one is Mouser, the thing is though (like I already said) the pins on the original part are quite a bit longer than anything made today (in either 90deg or straight down), meaning even if I do get a 90deg one, it wont fit.

So if I can't get an original part it will be a case of putting a few jumper wires to connect it up. Not a big deal I guess, just wanted to see if I could get the original type part first.

Image

Here's a pic I found on the net, only thing you can't see, the vertical part of the 90º pins are actually quite long (the height of the pot plus some to go through the PCB hole), I'm not sure if the new one's are like this, maybe.

But anyway, I just ordered the closest thing from Mouser, so we'll see how I get on.

Well I take it all back and admit I'm a fool, Roland just got back to me via email notifying me that the pot i want is available.

...and some of you may recall my thread about a CR-8000 I need parts for, well while I was at it I asked about a LED driver chip I need for it, and they've got that too!! Oh yes Roland you bloody legends!
