when i bought my 606, it shipped with holes drilled for an individual output mod but the mod was never done. so i was thinking of completing it! i bought some 1/8 inch jacks, but realized that they're open circuit. could i still use the open circuit jacks, or should i take them back and get closed circuit? also, does anyone have pictures of their moded 606 circuit board that could help me more easily identify where and how exactly to solder the jacks? i have the scematics and a description of the process, but some things are still unclear. i think if i see it, i should be able to recreate it. i'm relatively new to the whole soldering thing, although i did solder some pickups to a guitar once several years ago. i've been watching some how to videos, and i think i'm ready to give it a go. :? thanks!

Don't have the specific answers BUT I took the leap of faith starting on my gear about a year ago. Did the same thing you did, had limited experience and watched tons of tutorial vids. I've done the polysix battery mod and added midi, Jx-3p midi upgrade and a few other odds and ends I'm forgetting. Everything went pretty much fine an I got pretty good at it. Just get the right tools like a good sucker and iron and make sure get some flux and a tip cleaner and tinner and some desoldering wick. That should be fine for most jobs. Take your time and you should be good to go with a little confidence. Good luck.

There are plenty of places online for soldering advice, but for modding the 606, I wrote a Word document from my notes on all the mods I did 7 years ago, that you might be able to use:
You too can mod your 606
I removed all the hotlinks, but the rest should be there. For any questions regarding specifics in this doc, just PM me.

awesome, thanks for the document! i still have to gather my thoughts on the project before i dive in. i think i might try to take the open circuit jacks back and get closed ones, as it sounds like that's what's described in the word document. the kick mod seems really enticing. still would like to see it done to a 606 at least in picture form, especially so that i don't confuse where to solder the various leads, even in terms of one side of the board or the other!

Just for the record, I used switched jacks, but this means closed when nothing is connected, and open when you insert a cable. This way the signal goes to your indie out and disappears at the 606 Mix output.
