Tyco Hot Keyz

Post by Cumulus » Fri Nov 12, 2010 8:16 pm

I found a Tyco Hot Keyz keytar at the thrift store for $6.00 and it was in the original box!.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that it was DOA. It has two battery compartmetns and there were disgusting corroded cells in each one.

i am going to open it up and clean off the contacts. Does anyone know if the PCB's are close to the batteries on these things?

I am hoping it's not a total loss. If so, I wonder if any collectors would want to buy the empty box and styrofoam end pieces. That would be a rather silly Ebay auction but if the thing is non-repairable I'd rather not have th ebox lying around..

cleaning the contacts will hopefully be all that's needed.

open it up and see if there's any battery leakage through to anything else - with any luck cleaning it all off properly will be all that's needed to get it running.

if there are any solder points or tracks that are broken, just solder them up.. if there are melted components you might have a bit of a problem figuring out what they were.. need to find a schematic for it or something
