ROLAND S-550 stuck with one sample

Post by ColorForm2113 » Thu Nov 18, 2010 8:19 am

ok so ive been trying to stop obsessing about other gear i cant afford and get back to working with what i have. and after fooling around with sampling some nice moog pads from my micro, i decided to put together a synth drum kit....well in the s-550's internal memory i managed to create a kick drum (sampled to I11), snare drum (I12), closed hi hats (I13), and toms(I14), i then saved the set (Set I) to a disk and the names all came up, but every sound is the kick drum sound. ive tried a few different disks and and have had the same problem so its not the disk, so its either me or the machine. anyone else have this problem? its been a very frustraing night and im determined to get this to work :x

thanks in advance

EDIT: I tried changing the midi chanel and also tried changing the patches around and i still only get the kick drum sound....

Totaly bogus advice since I've never had one.
Kurzweil samplers have a feature called 'opaque layer' that causes one sample to cover up all the others if the key ranges overlap. Any chance of something like this?

There is a function called mix where you layer 2 samples on top of each other, but that creates a new sample spot and you have to manually do that for each sample. Its probably something really stupid and obvious that im missing. Thanks for the input though.

Update, I've managed to get the samples I made saved as "tones" but I can't get them to come up on the play menu, but I can edit them...its progress I guess....

Again bogus.
In the wonderful world of Roland (at least the "D" series) don't you have to put the "tone" into a "patch" to make it play? (sold my D-110 and manual a long time ago)

In my S-330, you sample -that makes a tone, then open menu and choose edit split, there you can assign tones to a patch. As Rhino said, you have to assign tones to a "patch" before you can play them normally.

Huhzah! It worked! I was skipping over the split step, as I thought you only needed to do that if you want 2 tones to be played on a patch, but you need to asign the keys for any tone to be played. Thanks for all the help, I can now miss sleep due to creating music instead fighting with machines lol
