Tech/Repair Shop Question
My analog KB needs a simple repair job involving 3-4 replacement tactile switches. Will I save any money by ordering the parts myself before bringing it to a (guitar shop) instrument tech, or are they generally honest about how they bill for getting/replacing parts like that?

Re: Tech/Repair Shop Question
Try going to an auto repair shop and asking if they'll install the parts YOU bought elsewhere...see where you get.
There WILL be a markup on parts...that's business. Tact switches are cheap enough that you should not worry about 'saving money' on a few. If the tech does good work, he/she's entitled to make a fair wage.
NOTE: if you analog synth is a Roland JX3-p, you're screwed...switches are forged from pure Unobtainium.

Depends. . . If your going to Robbs music, then no they don't want your tact switches. They may tell you it can't be fixed after trying 3 cans of contact cleaner.

Re: Tech/Repair Shop Question
Son of a b***h, I am taking it to Robbs Music - how did you guess that? A friend of mine got his MPC serviced there, and had no complaints, so maybe their tech support varies by location?
Fortunately not a JX I guess, although I'll take that into consideration since I'd like to get my hands on one. Its my AX60 that needs new switches - it's something I wouldn't mind trying myself, but I can't invest the time - I need to get the repair done and sell it ASAP to pay off my ski pass for this season.
