Emu Virtuoso--ALL Noise..NO Sounds

Post by CaveDweller » Mon Jan 31, 2011 11:22 pm

Man,..these last couple of weeks have been a "rack synth catastrophe" for me....problems abounding everywhere. First my Alesis module now an Emu. It's a Virtuoso module I picked up a few weeks back. When I first booted it up the LCD was unreadable unless the unit was tilted way back AND white noise blasted from EVERY output (Mains, Subs and headphones). I did some digging around on line and determined that it was "highly likely" that a faulty power supply was to blame. I found a replacement PSU and popped it in today. The LCD issues disappeared entirely...the screen became bright and as easy to read as my other Emu modules. The noise, however, DID NOT go away. I upgraded the software to 2.26 (latest), did a couple of factory resets and even ran the Virtuoso through the on-board diagnostics menu. No help. I can scroll through the menus, presets, etc without issue. All buttons, knobs and lights "appear" to be working normally. I just can't hear anything from ANY output except LOUD staticky white noise. Any help/tips appreciated. Cheers.

Dumb question...is there a sample ROM inside?

They are removable and many people have gutted their modules and sold the ROMs separately.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Yep...Orchestral Vol 1 and Orchestral Vol 2 nestled side by side. I ran the onboard diagnostics on them and they both passed. I can scroll through all the patches via the LCD...but the only sound coming out of the unit is white noise.
