Indicisiveness and Space Echo Speed Settings
So I bought a Chorus Echo 301 and it was pretty good. Sold it and bought a 201 because I didnt like how the reverb mixed in on the 301. I got the 201 today and dont like the reverb mix in any better. I want my 301 back because the speed of the 301 can be set A LOT lower than my 201. I have them both in front of me and the lowest speed I can get on the 201 is on setting 7 and the lowest speed I get on the 301 is on setting 3.
I am quite suprised that the 201 cant get anywhere near as slow as my 301. Is this normal? Is there an overall speed adjustment that I can make to the 201 to slow it down? I dont like any setting on the 201 unless it is basically at its slowest rate possible. I assume this has to do with the tape head spacing differences on the 201 and 301 but honestly, for the life of me I cant figure out how these damn machines work internally.
Can anyone help me. I am about to sell my 201 and go back to the 301 and dont want to do it unless thats the only way to get the slow speeds that i already have on my 301. FYI - I already have my 301 sold to someone on ebay.

I wouldn't go adjusting pots.....A space echo is the way it is.
The 301 is always more noisy and bright.
The 201 is tighter and dub like.

Well there you go then, you're now a 201 owner. I'm not sure why you're even posting anything about it here...dzlvs8 wrote:I already have my 301 sold to someone on ebay.

Re: Indicisiveness and Space Echo Speed Settings
Because unless I can get the 201 to slow down more like the 301 I am going to sell the 201 and buy another 201. Did you evebread my first post? I am looking to find out if I can slow a 201 down to the the slowest speed setting on echo setting 3 of a 301. If I can't (if the 201 isn't meant to go that slow) then I am NOT going to be an owner of a 201 for very much longer. My 201 actually sounds brighter than my 301. I think its all because of the condition of the tape. 301 sounds fatter.

Well if you've already turned the rate knob as far as it goes what are you expecting people to tell you? I don't understand why you would sell the 201 and buy another 201, they're gonna be exactly the same in terms of delay time.dzlvs8 wrote:Because unless I can get the 201 to slow down more like the 301 I am going to sell the 201 and buy another 201. Also, what's an evebread?

Come on flower, focus! If I can't get the 201 to slow down any more I am goig to rebuy a 301, not a 201. Your're right that would be dumb. As far as what I am asking about and expecting/hoping for is thst there is an internal global speed setting on the motor somewhere in the internals of the 201. I kind of would think that there is somehing like that because it is pretty shocking that the 201 I have doesn't delay very slow at all.
Evebread? goggle it.

You can understand where the confusion is coming from.dzlvs8 wrote:Because unless I can get the 201 to slow down more like the 301 I am going to sell the 201 and buy another 201.

Typos are responsible for more confusion & anger than a pick-axe in the genitals, well almost.

Re: Indicisiveness and Space Echo Speed Settings
Yeah, I made my final decision. 301 it is. I agree that the 201 may be a bit warmer, maybe. And the reverb not mixing with the echo definitely makes stuff sound like Lee Scratch Perry dub music. But dammit that 301 makes my minimoog and prophet 08 SING!!!!!!!!!! And I dont even like chorus. I just like the 301 sound and its covers a much broader range of echo speed.
I am backing out of my ebay auction where I sold my 301. It is mint and looks untouched, inside and out. Sucks for him.
To the guy who wants my 201: I'm from parts unknown. I can sell you my 201. Its in excellent shape. There is only one small nick in the corner of the tolex (very very small nick). Thats the only damage to it. $700 PM me if you are interested. Its a good deal. The last one that sold on ebay was rusty and stuff. It sold for $710.
Anyone interested in buying some original 201 tapes that are still sealed in the cases? I have two. I may keep one, unless they are ridiculously valuable.

Doesn't matter, if you have an agreement to sell something you don't back out of it.
