Jupiter 6 one factory patch empty . . .

Post by wjmwpg » Wed May 04, 2011 9:01 pm

I realize that there's probably nothing to this at all, but . . .

I only had the JP6 in my hands for a day after buying it before it went to my local tech for some minor repairs and installation of the Europa kit - so admittedly I'm still far from familiar with it.

I was talking to my tech yesterday when he told me that all the factory patches are there except one - D-1. Neither of us thought too much of it until it occurred to me that it could be possible that that particular patch uses only one voice chip exclusively for its sound (whereas all the other patches access other chips exclusively, or a combination of chips) - meaning in that case that I've got one dead chip.

So while it's probably nothing, I thought I'd take this shot in the dark on the off chance that one of you with far more JP6 experience than I, might reply with "I know exactly what that means - no sound at all from factory patch D-1 means you have a faulty . . . "

At $50+ dollars an hour I'm only so enthusiastic to send my tech on a wild goose chase . . . oh vintage synthesizers, how quickly you have usurped my expensive shoes habit.

Try making a new patch of your own and saving it to D-1. Then power off and back on, then try that patch. If it's gone too, you may have a bad RAM chip.

I believe in the original factory patches one patch location was left blank intentionally so that you could use it as a temporary storage location when re-arranging the order of patches, working on new patches, or doing edits.
