DECODE SIZE ERROR? Korg MS2000

Post by man-009 » Wed May 18, 2011 11:32 pm

My Korg MS2000 says this when powered on.... DECODE SIZE ERROR. does it need an OS? and is this easy to put in?... HELP! bought it this way hoping it can be fixed. or..is it trashed now because of this? i was told the former owner tried to update it and it failed in the process. he had tried a few times. no go.

Are you running it on XP? It can be fixed - apparently its a windows XP problem, not the Korg:

Also:

Make sure you download the firmware update for the Korg;

http://daz.korgforums.com/ms2kos107_2k9.zip

You can use MIDIOx to upload it to the MS:

http://www.midiox.com/zip/midioxse.exe

Hope that helps.

Cheers, graham

I'm sure it will be oK - like the posts seem to say, it's an XP registry problem, not the MS.

I think its referring to the MS not receiving the correct expected data file chunk size over MIDI for the OS firmware file...I have had similar error message like this before when upgrading firmware in other equipment - "checksum error" which probably means the same thing as the MS error. In my case, it occurred when I was using a different program other than MIDIOx to upload it. Changing to MIDIOx fixed the issue...apparently some uploading programs are better than others at passing on correct data packet sizes... MIDIOX is by far the most reliable and trustworthy I have tried.

well, i recieved the synth today! poor packing job. the box was too big and the synth bounced around a bit. all the styrofoam fell off of it but i was lucky! it was all intact! so we put the OS version 7 update in and....nothing! still had the error message. then we found some german bootleg OS online that loaded perfect but had no sounds? but it wipped out the decode error message! then we put in the right KORG OS 7 and it all worked perfect! it lives!!!! not sure what the seller did wrong? so now i have a mint MS2000! thanks to all here at VSE for your help!

Hey that's great news - i knew it would work out ok - since it's software, not hardware, there should be no reason why it couldn't get going again. I had a similar experience updating my Roland MS-1 sampler - the last update which was actually on the Roland site was corrupt and gave those sorts of errors - I thought I'd cooked it. Looked around on forums and found I wasn't the only one so I emailed Roland about it and they sent me the previous OS before that one (which WASN'T on their site for me to try and recover it) and it worked like a charm!

Cheers, Graham
