How to use Harware Synth Sounds with FL Studio?
Hi, I have never used a MIDI-sequencer before but now I want to start that and have some problems.
I have downloaded FL Studio 9 Producer Demo and connected my Synth via MIDI to the computer.
What do I need to do now that FL Studio plays the recieved MIDI data with the sound of the synth? Is that possible overall if the synth is only connected via MIDI to the pc? If I understood right, MIDI transfers only data like Note lenght, pitch etc but no Audio.

If you want to record the sound of your synth, you should hock up the line out to the line in on your soundcard.
Midi is only for controlling things like software synths.

MIDI can also be used to *control* hardware synths. Yees, you still need seperate audio.

Isn't this covered in the manual?

I haven't found it there, but I also haven't read trough it very carefully. Could be that I didn't see it.

I'm certain it's in the manual. You'd hook up your hardware synth's midi to the midi on your soundcard/computer (ensuring that a minimum your midi out from the computer to the midi in on the synth).
You would then take the audio outs of the hardware synth, and connect them to the audio ins on your soundcard.
Once that's done you would need to map any midi tracks to the midi connection of your hardware synth, and map the audio ins to one or more tracks on the mixer.
It may sound painful at first, but a look through the manual should give you the proper direction.

And if that were true, then no hardware synth's would have midi in/out/through ports. A cursory look at most any hardware synth built in the last couple decades will show your comment to be way off.Desecrated wrote:Midi is only for controlling things like software synths.

Insert a "Midi Out" instrument channel. Set it to the proper channel of the hardware synth. Give it some piano roll notes.

I have no soundcard here but when I have one I will do that. In the mean time i will use softsynths with FL Studio.

How do you listen to stuff without a soundcard? To boot, even the integrated chip's crappy line in can be useful to learn how it's done (so you can set up a .flp file to use as default, init "preset" for your hardware)
Re: How to use Harware Synth Sounds with FL Studio?
I have read that the computer soundcards are difficult to connect and quiet crappy quality...isn't it wiser to use external audio interfaces?

Crappy quality? A gamer sound card yes- a real sound card no. Putting a single card into a PC and then attaching some cables to it...
