Boss DR-55 programming issue

has anyone ever had an issue programming a boss dr 55? if i try a straight 4/4 BD beat the kicks come in between the hats. all the sounds are programmed a tick off, and when i hit a note on, i hear the sample only after the following note off. it worked this way when i got it, then worked normally, and now its doing it again. does anyone know what might cause this or how to reset it? thanks for any help.
