Roland RS-09
I just bought an RS-09 vintage synth a week ago, and the volume knob makes a weird fuzzy/feedback noise when I turn it, but when I stop turning it the sound is gone. Also, 1 of the buttons is kind of weird because it requires me to press it harder/more precise than the others for it to turn on. Can these be fixed? Can they be fixed by myself? Are these normal issues?

A cleaning of the pots might help the scratchiness... use some Deoxit D5 cleaner. Might wanna check all the solder joints near the pot on the PCB....
I don't know much about the switches (there were two kinds depending on which gen.) and if they can be cleaned.
Good luck.

What is a pot? Do you mean I would have to open up my synth or something? Sorry I'm new to synths.themilford wrote:Which version?reckoner421 wrote:I just bought an RS-09 vintage synth a week ago, and the volume knob makes a weird fuzzy/feedback noise when I turn it, but when I stop turning it the sound is gone. I'm pretty sure the model is the standard issue, it has the colored buttons and orange "Organ/strings" instead of the black/grey color scheme

Pot= Potentiometer. Do a little reading electronics. Even if you're not gonna repair it yourself you should know what the parts are and be informed to help you communicate with a repair tech.
Colored bottons is Version 2.

Okay to I opened up my RS-09 and am trying to spray some cleaning lube/stuff on the inside of the volume pot but I can't seem to access it. It's under a "motherboard" which I can't detatch. Please help!

Re: Roland RS-09
Pretty sure they use those plastic rivets to hold the boards in place. Do you have one of those straw attachments for your contact cleaner? you should be able to get in there. usually there is an opening to the trace/wiper on the pot near the solder terminals... if you can angle the straw in the there and blast it a few times?reckoner421 wrote:Okay to I opened up my RS-09 and am trying to spray some cleaning lube/stuff on the inside of the volume pot but I can't seem to access it. Re: Roland RS-09
If the buttons look just like the ones on a TR-808 or a Korg Polysix, no, they cannot be cleaned. However, they are easy to find and replace as long as the switch frame itself is good (if the button is still there, it'll probably good). The frame holds a very common ALPS tactile switch, and it just snaps in.
