Hi,
1) Does anyone know if when replacing the battery in the Roland JX-3P synth, if the factory patches get erased? I assume my own user patches will be gone, but how about the factory presets?
2) Also, does anyone know how to perform a "tape backup" with this board using a PC? ie any amplifiers required in between or will a direct connection do the trick?

I don't know for a fact, but I'm pretty sure the 3P's factory presets (the ones with names) are in ROM and will still be there after you replace the battery. The user patches will be lost.

Back in December, I did a "tape reload" on a PPG Wave 2.2 that I purchased. Simply plug one end of the cable into your computer's headphone jack and the other end into the cassette or tape input. Prepare your synth to receive the signal from "tape" and then play the mp3 (or whatever file) from your computer.

To save your patches, just do the opposite: tape out from synth to mic input on computer. Start recording on computer than then start the tape back up on the synth. Use your audio editor to crop the silence from beginning and end of back up tone and save to your hard drive.

The 3P manual is available for free download on www.RolandUS.com and the tape back up procedures are there. Just subsititute "tape recorder" for "computer".
