Using midi synths

Post by dmc-12 » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:09 pm

Hi All,
I am relatively new to the world of synths, and don't understand how to do the following. So please forgive me
Firstly I owned the following synths/modules,

Yamaha dx7
Roland d10
Roland d550
Yamaha cs1x

I have a mixing desk with all the synths running through it.

How do i get all my synths to change sounds using just one as a midi controller. I have the sounds i want to access in the user banks but want to change through the varios patches quickly

Sorry hope i explained my question clearly

Many thanks for your time

Send a "program change" message with the appropriate number to each synth on the channel it is set to receive midi info on.

Careful some synths are 0-126 others are 1-127. So if you find you are off by one, adjust it accordingly.

You will pick one keyboard to be your "master" controller. Take the MIDI OUT of that board and plug it into the MIDI IN of another instrument and plug another MIDI cable into that instrument's MIDI THRU and connect it to the MIDI IN of a 3rd instrument and so forth.

You will use the program selection buttons on your master controller to change patches on your other MIDI instruments. Be sure to turn your controller's "LOCAL OFF" so you don't hear the sounds of your mater controller layered on top of the sounds of your "slaved" instruents, unless that's the effect you're going for.

Be sure the MIDI transmit channel on your master controller matches the MIDI receive channel of which ever slaved instrument you wish to play.
